Biography

Music is embedded in Nathalie Matthews very being and with a new start and a debut album this beautiful Canadian vocalist plans to open herself up to the world and allow all to experience what she has to offer.

As a child Nathalie was encouraged to explore the arts. By the age of 11 she could play the flute, the saxophone and the piano, but it didn’t take her long to discover that her favorite instrument was her voice. With an amazing six-octave range and stellar stage presence, everyone who heard her sing was astounded by the maturity of her voice. At the age of 16, Nathalie started her first band and soon became a hometown favorite. She later entered the Miss Montreal Pageant and won the category of “Best Talent.” She went on to compete in the Miss Quebec Pageant and because of her friendly demeanor and outgoing personality she was chosen as “Ms. Congeniality.” With a newfound fame and confidence Nathalie connected with the management of Grammy-award winner Celine Dion and landed the coveted spot of back up singer. Her amazing talent and fluency in French made her an asset to the bilingual singer’s band. After touring with Celine and learning the art of performance from one of the best, Nathalie decided to strike out on her own, formed a new band and began to tour Eastern Canada. Even though she had no album and no airplay, Nathalie was able to garner a large fan base. Once audiences heard her they had no choice but to love her!

As fate would have it Nathalie fell in love and decided to put her singing aspirations on-hold to pursue family. In 2005, she decided it was time to let go of her last love, while re-embracing her first love and what better place to start fresh than the United States? She traveled to Las Vegas and participated in the 2005 International Music Festival. Nathalie wowed the judges with her powerful voice and was awarded the category of “Best R&B Pop” artist. The opportunity and exposure also allowed her to cross paths with some of the best producers the industry has to offer and after recording a few songs in New York she came to Los Angeles, CA, to record her album.

Once in LA, she stepped into the studio to purge herself of the music that had been bottled inside for years. What emerged was 13 cuts of pure Nathalie Matthews. Her self-titled debut album is a delicious blend of pop and R&B that contains heartfelt messages of love, pain, healing and triumph. In honor of her roots, Nathalie also recorded two songs in French—one is Chaka Khan’s hit “Ain’t Nobody.” The album contains fajbulous production by David Cochrane, formerly of the Commodores. He is responsible for hits from Lionel Richie, Paula Abdul, Atlantic Starr and others. Victor Newman also joined in the effort (Tyrese, Randy Jackson, and Mike Epps). The album in currently in pre-release and can be found via the Internet.
Nathalie is now performing spot dates in and around Southern California.

Jon Rue(the founder of Hollywood Cure for Pain) attended this exclusive invite only event with honorary board member Fawn, and spokes person Marcus Foy(from MTV's new hit Tila Tequila reality TV show A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila). Marcus Foy(reality TV star, model, actor and celebrity rapper) has also starred in 20 episodes of the Janice Dickinson Modeling reality TV series, Survival of the Richest and other films. Jon Rue was James Bartholet's special guest and was given superb treatment by the staff at the function.

The red carpet soiree was a birthday celebration for entertainment industry icon(and Hollywood insider) James Bartholet. Considered among some circles to be one of the most connected men in Hollywood, James has an extensive history in the entertainment business. His passion is in television, radio and the internet where he hosts several weekly broadcasting shows.

The stage will be located on Vine street at Sunset blvd. "After an absolutely spectacular performance that Nathalie did at my B-day party last month I am very excited to have her as the featured artist on my stage at this years Hollywood Parade"

The show starts at 4pm. Get there early to find parking. Although the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce gave up on the parade,
 the Los Angeles City Council voted to sponsor the holiday event.

The name has been changed to the "Hollywood Santa Parade" ( sort of a throwback to the early days when it was the "Santa Claus Lane Parade" ) because the Hollywood CoC owns the "Hollywood Christmas Parade" name.
 The Christmas parade will take place on Nov. 25, 2007, the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

The Grand Marshal for the 2007 parade will be Bob Barker ( "The Price is Right" ), and other celebs on hand will include the cast from the popular "High School Musical". The parade route will be the same as before. The parade will receive live broadcast TV coverage this year in Chicago along with other media. If you have cable, you can find it on CityView Channel 35, and later, KTLA ( Channel 5 ) will broadcast the parade at noon on

Recently October 27, former NFL All-Pro Jacksonville Jaguar’s defensive end, Marcellus Wiley, and his sister, Tiki Harrell, held the grand opening of their fashion boutique, La’Tik, in Santa Monica, CA. The event provided not only an opportunity for celebrities and tastemakers to enjoy a new shopping experience, but also for Marcellus to help his sister manifest her fashion dreams. While most people arrived at the event expecting to simply peruse the racks, many were seduced by the luxe designer handbags, apparel and accessories, so few left empty-handed. Instead, they departed with shopping bags full of fashionable treats in their hands, smiles on their faces and intentions of returning. The event’s success confirmed the store’s motto: “You may like to shop, but you will love La’Tik.”

With fashion-forward offerings and a high level of customer service, La’Tik is poised to be a major player on Santa Monica’s style scene, and the launch of the E-commerce site will bring Tiki’s taste to shoppers everywhere.

Music Reviews of Nathalie Matthews

Nathalie Matthews is poised to take up the throne of Celine Dion, as another Canadian from Quebec who earned her chops at a young age to eventually become a backup singer for Dion. “No Mystery” is delivered with a breathless smooth jazz Love Boat-style seduction. I am not going to reference Titanic - oh wait I just did! It would be a better suited description as these songs are more about love lost than gained. And yes, Matthews does speak French and you will hear it on songs like “Juste Toi” which is actually a French version of Chaka Khan’s, “Ain’t Nobody.” It’s delivered as a way cool French rap, with occasional breaks into English.

The two most radio-ready songs on this album are “Totaled My Heart” and “Trippin Over You.” Both include a rap section so this is definitely stuff you’d be hearing alongside Rhianna and Mary J. Blige on the radio. “My Boo” and “Talk To Me” reminded me of some of Paula Abdul’s albums with a very “Straight Up Now” feel! That old school vibe continues on “Free” and “Why Ya Playin’” with production that recalled En Vogue.

Composition-wise most of the songs are fast paced; the lyrical delivery is double time because the songs have a lot of story to cover in their three minute space. “Givin It My All” has some guitar and live sounding percussion which is a nice shift from the overall sound of the album. I felt the most successful songs here were not the hip hop songs, but the pop and soul ballads. “Don’t Surrender,” especially is this album’s strongest song, a track to watch out for with amazing lyrics that are a series of mantras, “Just go and seek out your own truth/Don’t surrender to your fears inside/Don’t surrender to life’s pressures/Live day to day and find the treasures/Keep some faith and hope in your deepest soul/Then you’ll be sure to find your life’s goal/Be strong, never accept defeat/ Live with passion and love so you can feel complete” The lyrics on “Hold On” and “Don’t Surrender” are the stuff of which great songs are made; words of inspiration with real power that are guaranteed heavy radio rotation as evidenced by Natasha Bedingfield’s hit smash, “Unwritten.

Nathalie Matthews might be an independent artist, but her music has a very mainstream feel.  She has a wonderful, powerful voice, which is excellent for her style of pop/R&B.  A former backup singer for Celine Dion, Ms. Matthews has struck out on her own...and she does it well!  Her thirteen song self-titled album starts off strong with the danceable, "Totaled My Heart."  The love song, "No Mystery," is remarkable, and "Trippin' Over You" has a great beat for the club.  The enchanting ballad, "Don't Surrender," and it's French version, "Ne Lache Pas," are simply gorgeous!  "Givin' It My All" has an interesting melody on the chorus, and "I'm Over You" has a great pop sound.  The entire album is outstanding.  Definitely worth listening!!!

Roctober Magazine

Independently released slick R&B is rarely on par with todays radio hits, although it sure sounds better than most of the stuff out there. Matthews sings with a Panache and a clear, strong voice, and has some sly phrasing, and she can also sing in french. What more do you want?

 I have never been a fan of this type of music. All the songs are highly produced with loads of drum loops and very little in the way of anything musical. The lyrics are generic and the female vocals are interchangeable. That's not saying that Nathalie Matthews has a bad voice, far from it. She has nice vocals. And I'm sure that the people who are into this type of music would love this CD. I would have to say that "No Mystery" and "Don't Surrender" do show promise, but overall this release just isn't for me.

Description and Definition of Commercial Radio Tests

All tests were done within the commercial mainstream radio markets.  Radio stations participating in test are commercially reporting radio stations to NMW/STS, FMQB, Billboard/R&R, and Music Row.

Ratings:  Ratings are based upon a one, two, three and four star basis. We strongly recommend promoting songs with three or four star rating; they have great potential to become a "standard" for the target audience and with target radio stations.  Songs with a two star rating aren't as strong, but have solid programming value, and we also do recommend promoting them as "follow up" singles or at least re-testing at a later date.  Songs  testing one star are "borderline", few negatives, but few positives at this point.  These singles are worth keeping around for possible re-testing.

I really like the intro, it caught my attention right away. The groove is just right for club and pop 40 radio. The hook is good but the beat carries the vocals and makes the song a good song to groove to. The MC sounds like he he got drowned out by the music at the bridge. This track has a interesting mix of new and old school R&B/pop feel. For whatever reason Paula Abdul came to mind when I first heard it. The lead vocals are good... they have a lot of excitement and expression to them. I probably would classify the track more as a pop song then R&B.
The hook is cool, the "what cha gonna do now" is catchy and easily repeated which is the most important part of having a successful hook.
The overall melody is cool... the beat matches the vocals and gives the song a lot of energy.

Lead Vocals: good vocal texture but the hard pan on doubled vocals all through the song is very irritating. I don't think it is necessary for the verses.
Hook: needs to be fuller. Way too think. Needs some harmonies and more musicianship.
I think the song could use a softer vocal mix, meaning blend the vocals and music more, and I'd limit the compression.
The rap is good. The end part of the rap verse is hidden behind the music a little so listener has to concentrate to hear what rapper's final line is.

One for the kids
Creates a modern sound from the start with very commercial voice lacking a touch of soul but carrying the song well enough. Good mix nice tune
Nice mix, good groove, good singing / harmonies and the song had a nice lyric line that said something. The tune had direction and offered an interesting break. The song did however sound like every other R&B song I’ve heard. The little break is the only variable that even slightly made it any different then 90% of all the other R&B songs you hear. This one even sounded a little like late 80’s R&B which is not really what I would think you would want if you’re looking for a record deal.. With this being said It was a good song just sounded a little dated and didn’t offer a strong enough hook to separate it from all the other good R&B songs out there. I feel for ya, cause standing out in this genre is dame hard to do.

Look Good also sounds good
The producer made good use of effects like Auto Tune in certain spots on the lead vocals. The vocalist has a contemporary, listenable voice for this type of song. I wish a 16 bar bridge that took the song in a totally diffrent direction would have been utilized after the 2nd chorus. This would have added more dimenion to the song, and would have made me more anxious to hear the chorus for a 3rd time. And it would have lengthed the song by only 33 seconds. The song is marketable and current with good, standard industry production. Techniques like following the chorus melody with a synth lead line adds more depth to the chorus. Over all, I think the song would stand up in todays market with it's hook and melodies.

Innovative or Unoriginal
Although this song may seem like a hit record in the making, it has a very long way to go to actually make it to the top. In the beginning, it's hard to tell whether it's a nu pop anthem or a recycled Britney reject. The lyrics, however playful and bouncy, tend to be rather repetitive after the first verse. The production is really cool and makes the song more chewable, however it should be reworked to sound less cheap and unofficial. Great diction on all the vocals. I can hear everyone clearly in the mix, good placement on both male and female vocals. Excellent use of layering/stacking background female vocal parts.
 
On a side note, the drum beat is hot! except the breakdown on the hi-hats at around 2:19 seconds needs something in there to replace the hi-hat/shaker void as nothing else dropped out. Also I like how you have the bass drum follow the Gm to Dm drop (the bass drum actually changes depth on the Dm). I think the hats needs to calm down a little on the verses.
 
The verse fits the style and flow of the song, which is similar to the genesis of this song (interpolation ?) of an old skool cut "Let's Straighten It Out" by Latimore. That song was an old soul cut with a basic song structure (even though them cats was laying down some cool licks on the keys and bass) but the lyrics on the verse were basic enough to slide you right into the chorus. Your song takes that approach and adds some nice pre-chorus lyrics into the mix and then jumps to the chorus with the layered vocals.
 
Production wise I only have a few suggestions.
 
1. Let the hi-hat/shaker take it easy on the verses to allow the singer to speak her mind and be heard. By the time the pre-chorus kicks in and the chorus comes the hi-hats can jump in because everything else is up too.
 
2. Kick the male spoken sections up further in the song instead of near the end. They offer a nice balance between the layered female vocals.
 
Overall, I enjoyed this song and would listen again.

Cool voice effect in the beginning. The women voices are good (enough), points for that! They could be conceivably better though. The woman's voice get's better in as the song goes on. The beginning of the song needs to be improved, and some patchy spots. The song was OK. Not good enough for me to listen for long. Nothing drew me or kept me listening.

Great VOX
This song sounds like the intro to another song (midnight train to georgia). This is obviously a new song but when the intro is from another song that I know, well, as a musician, I'd rather people think of ME first when they hear the intro. But enough about that. Vocals are good. Is it the same person? If not, you got a great back up - sounds great with the lead. The sound is quality; good tone and great performance. The song itself is a typical lovey dovey song - which I loved when I was in my twenties - doesn't really appeal to me now. The production is awesome - very professional. Your ending is very nice. It is different than I would have expected.

Since more pop artist are TRYING to be soulful and more R&B, this would be a Good song for Jessica Simpson or even better MARIAH. LOVE the change, great piano work and sequencing.

I'm not really sure where this one takes me? Lead Vocals--are OK, nice backgroundz. But sounds like a demo more than an album cut or something like that. No diss, just thats how it strikes me. Lead vocalist has potential, but I think she's missing that originality factor. The Song doesn't really do anything for me. Song is alright. I think if you were able to bring the chorus in at 40 seconds it may make it more interesting. Vocals tend to stay at the same level for most of the song, which makes the song sound redundant. But its alright, has nice production.

Hey you asked so here it comes, I think you got a really cool song but it may need some work in regards of the beat it sound a bit dry for my taste but the song is really good, very catchy I like the voice but I need to hear some solo voicing there....very cool song, but do some more production work as well as some more work on those beats , maybe do some live stuff or theres also some goods samples and loops that could do the work. roll the credits
nice feel good vibe instantly. dubs on vocals are actually cool. they give more dimension to vocals almost as a vocal effect. nice message.harmonies are nice. song sort of rolls together. from verse to chorus but track allows that. bridge came right as i was wondering if song would change directions. nice song overall. very feel good. soundtrack material as well. especially after movie is about to end and couple hs gotten whatever problems they had during movie worked out, i could definitely hear this song rolling tthrough with credits. good song.
